There are literally thousands of cities in the United States, some of which are considered really wonderful places to call home. According to the latest rankings from US News, the best of the best — i.e. the Most Desirable Place to Live in 2018 — is Austin, Texas. Which other cities made the list? Read on to find out.

The Top 10

According to U.S. News, they chose their list of most desirable places based on their review of the 125 most populous metro areas in the United States. To earn a high ranking, a place had to have good value, be a desirable place to live, have a strong job market and a high quality of life.

Based on those components, here are the top 10 Most Desirable Places to Live for 2018:

1.) Austin, Texas

2.) Colorado Springs, CO

3.) Denver, CO

4.) Des Moines, IA

5.) Fayetteville, AR

6.) Portland, OR

7.) Huntsville, AL

8.) Washington, D.C.

9.) Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN

10.) Seattle, WA

Austin took the number one spot due to having considerably high marks in all major components. It earned an overall score of 7.7 and earned a 7.1 for both value and quality of life. This isn’t surprising, considering Austin’s robust job market, highly active arts and culture scene, good schools and reasonable cost of living.

Colorado Springs was a close second, earning an overall score of 7.6 with quality of life and value both scoring 7.2.

Interestingly, Washington, D.C. was the only city on the east coast that made the top 10, which predominately consisted of cities in the western and midwestern regions.

Rounding out the top 25 of the list were…

11.) Nashville, TN

12.) Grand Rapids, MI

13.) Raleigh & Durham, NC

14.) San Antonio, TX

15.) Salt Lake City, UT

16.) Madison, WI

17.) San Jose, CA

18.) Dallas-Fort Worth, TX

19.) Phoenix, AZ

20.) San Francisco, CA

21.) Lexington-Fayette, KY

22.) Charlotte, NC

23.) Boise, ID

24.) Asheville, NC

25.) Boston, MA

As you can see, North Carolina makes a recurring appearance with three major cities (technically four, counting Raleigh and Durham separately) making the list. California also makes a few appearances, with San Jose and San Francisco earning the 17th and 20th rankings, respectively.
